Bamburgh is probably one of the best known and most beautiful villages in north Northumberland, renowned for it's magnificent castle, miles of unspoiled beaches, it's scenic but challenging golf course and last but not least Carters the butchers, home of the famous Bamburgh Banger (sausage to the uninitiated!) This part of the Northumberland coast has been designated an area of outstanding beauty.
North Northumberland is famous for it's castles. In addition to Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Lindisfarne and Alnwick are all easily reached. No visit to Alnwick would be complete without a visit to Alnwick Garden.
Cragside Hall at Rothbury, owned by the National Trust, is worth seeing. As well as the fascinating house, the grounds are extensive and beautiful.
The Farne Islands with their bird sanctuaries and grey seal colonies can be reached (weather permitting) from Seahouses. Budle Bay, also a haven for bird watchers, is within easy walking distance of the house.
Golf, surfing, wind and kite surfing, horse riding, coastal and hill walking and tennis, can all be enjoyed locally.
The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the birthplace of Christianity in Northumbria, is just a short drive away.
